August 24 & 25, 2020 In and out of “civilization” Libby and Beyond

A quick pit stop at the Woodland RV park in Libby, Montana (kinda pricey at $47 and you still had to pay .75 for a decent shower). We picked up supplies and headed to Lake Koocanusa.

Along the way we were flabbergasted to see this amazing dam appear out of nowhere.  We remarked that if it failed, the towns below it would be decimated.  It is the Libby Dam

Unfortunately, the Visitor Center is closed as are most things because of the COVID.  It would be really nice to tour it but I fear I won’t get back this way again.

Besides providing people on both sides of the border (Canada and the USA) with electricity, the owners of this Dam have developed and therefore provided us with some of the most beautiful campground facilities we have ever seen.  I am sure that the governments "asked" politely for this concession from the power company and being a good businessman, it agreed.  Thank you to everyone!!

Our destination was a campground close to the lake called McGillivray, named after a fella who was head of the North West Trading Company a fur trading company with trading posts in what is now Saskatchewan.

Anyways, we located a site in this awesome campground – most of the sites are pull thrus and can accommodate big rigs towing cars.  Of course there are no water and power facilities but no law against using your generator if you have/need one.  We didn’t.  The price for this campground?  $8 a night (senior pass – otherwise $16).

Well I don’t have a picture of that campground because this morning we ventured out to check out the area and ran across this free for 16 day site.  There was no way of knowing this place was here – we just happened to venture down a dirt road and viola here we are!!  Don’t feel sorry for us – we did pay in advance for 3 nights at the other site.

There are a couple of little beaches at our campsite and so I took advantage of one of them.  The water is very cold so I did the old one, two, three and Jody and Pat would be proud of me!!  Miss you ladies.

Tomorrow we will try to explore the eastern edge of the shoreline and report back.  I don’t know how it could get any prettier than this though.

Oh, I thought I would mention the only nemesis so far in our camping.  The killer bees!  Man are they hungry and so bothersome.  Oh well, everything can’t be perfect.  I bet they don’t like us invading their privacy either.

Here's Russ's first catch:
