August 18-19, 2020 – Back in the Time Warp
Sorry didn’t get a chance to write yesterday, Tuesday, but we arrived at RV park behind a Conoco station just across the bridge from Sandpoint, ID. We had already dumped the tanks, filled up the fresh water tank and the propane tank but we wanted some electricity and a shower. Thus the little RV park. Didn’t get a picture of it but that is okay because there was absolutely nothing remarkable about it. There was, however, a huge field next door for Ceilidh to run and play off leash. I have never seen a dog park quite that large and so I was not surprised to learn that it used to be a driving range that was owned b the owners of the RV park until some of the residents (there are full-timers there too) complained about getting hit by golf balls. Oh boy, it’s always something.
We had dinner at a friend’s house last night. Debbie, Doug and Abbey made us a wonderful rotisserie chicken and we shared a bottle of wine and some Patron shots in their backyard. Beautiful night. The time went too fast.
This morning, Wednesday, I took a little run and checked out the park which included some modular homes. I noted that there are people in all income strata that either take care of their homes and those that don’t.
I ran past a house that had a hand lettered sign on its front door that read:
Friend come ahead.
Not, get shot.
Hmmm – didn’t stop too long to think about that . . . .
We drove a few hours north past Bonner’s Ferry and found a campsite right on the Kootenai River. We arrived early enough to have the pick of the sites. Pretty sure that if it doesn’t cool down I’ll be sitting in that river tomorrow. We signed up for 4 nights. This is a USFS campsite and for us with a Senior Pass, it is $8 per night. Can’t beat it.
Tomorrow we have a couple places to check out. The Falls and a lake called “Bull” Speaking of bears (was I?), this is bear country so each campsite has the bear box we in Tahoe are so familiar with. Wonder if we will see one?

I'm pretty sure Joye and I stayed at that campground for a night on our way back from Glacier.
